"Technology"

Hello out there one and all.  I've decided to take today to talk about something that I think has been building up in me over the past 4 or 5 months.  Something that finally came to a head earlier this week and I just thought to myself if I don't say something about this then who the hell will.  I have decided to put this weight on my shoulders and I will be the spokesperson of this very important issue.

So my best friend Bryan and I often times get into a heated (and when I say heated I mean by the end of the conversation we are yelling at each other to get our points across) conversation about the place that technology has in today's society.  Now my friend Bryan, like the mindless drone that is still plugged into the Matrix that he is, seems to think that all the advances in "technology" are just oh so great and where would we be without them? Blah, blah, blah, blah.  I could go on but I think you all know where he is going with it and deep down I think you all know just how wrong he is and you just don't want to hear it anymore.  Instead you'd like to hear the voice of reason (ME) in this argument.  For those few out there that actually agree with him, it's okay, I get it.  But you're wrong, and I hate you, and you're dead to me forever. Or at least until you grow up and agree with me.

You may be wondering why I'm shaking my fist in the air to "technology", like the old man that runs out when kids are playing on his front yard.  You may be wondering if I'm talking about the ever growing invasion of privacy that "technology" seems to be inviting or the fact that we all seem to becoming more and more disconnected with one another because we are all so worried about being connected to this virtual reality that is nothing more than a front for what we all want our lives to really be.  And if you are thinking that let me just say that you are not wrong, but that is not what I am going to talk about today.

Today I'm talking about something much more important than that. Today I'm talking about a fundamental thing that should strike right at the core of who we all are as individuals and as a society as a whole. I know that you already know what I'm talking about, but I'm going to go ahead and say it anyway.  I'm of course talking about that dastardly company APPLE and their efforts to do away with the wonderful art of the Mixed CD. I have recently over the past few months learned this from several people that have newer APPLE laptops.  Apparently as a way to make their "technology" better APPLE has decided to get rid of the CD/DVD doc in their newer computers.

Now I ask you all what kind of GODDAMN DEVIL WORSHIPPING, TERRORIST LOVING, BABY SEAL CLUBBING company would do such a thing?  One of the lost arts in our society as a whole today is the art of making a truly great mixed CD.  To be able to go to a store and buy a cheap pack of blank CDs, to go home and put together a wonderful 15 song playlist that helps with a break-up or feels like the summer.  And then send that CD to your friends to make them smile, or your family, or even a lover. I don't know where I'd be in my life if I wasn't able to do something like this that maybe brings a little bit of joy into people's lives that mean the world to me.

And as "technology" keeps pushing forward and CDs become obsolete this art form of always trying to find the perfect mix will slowly die off.  I can't go out and buy all my closest friends a damn IPOD every time I want to make them a new mix.  And soon slowly but surely the people that I am closest to will no longer be able to get these little pieces of me in the form of glorious mixed CDs.  I don't know about any of you but who the hell wants to live in a world like that?  That is not the kind of world I want to start and raise a family up in.  There a quite of few of my friends that already have kids and I just worry about the type of world that these kids are going to grow up in.  What is the next thing "technology" is going to take away from them?  Are they going to have to grow up in a world with no HIGH-FIVES?  Only LOW-FIVES from here on out.  You may think I'm joking, but DAMMIT!!!!! This is the way things go. And frankly I'm not ready to live in a world with no more MIXED CDS.  Do something right this year, and join the fight.

Automatic car washers are just another form of "technology" taking from us. Get out there and do it yourself, like this guy.
